The Historical Society of New Mexico, in cooperation with the New Mexico Department of Cultural Affairs Historic Preservation Division and the U.S. Department of the Interior, makes available plaques for historic properties. These properties are to be listed in the New Mexico State Register of Cultural Properties, which is managed by the New Mexico Historic Preservation Division

The plaques are manufactured from aluminum alloys with flint harness, giving them a scratch-resistant surface. The finish is bronze background with gold-colored lettering. They are 10 inches by 10 inches in size. Three types of mounting are available:

  1. Double-Sided Tape—for mounting on any hard, smooth surface;
  2. Blind Tapped (stud mount)—includes threaded bolts that require drilling into the mounting surface and securing the plaque; and
  3. Stucco “hanging cleats” or “ZBrackets” (for an extra charge)—this bracket allows for easy removal of the plaque, but it is also the least secure method of mounting.
